You'll be able to give them your Chip Shop directory, and we'd love it if you were able to display this address in your store, either on signage or on your menu. Your Chip Shop directory is a unique web address which you can choose when you register your business with us, at no extra charge, for example www.chipshop.co.nz/seaside-takeaways.
Customers will also find your business through our home page at www.chipshop.co.nz. Your listing will appear on the map on that page, and be searchable through an advanced search feature where customers can search for shops by type, opening hours, and more. For this reason we recommend making your listing as comprehensive as possible - the more information you give us, the better the chances of customers finding you.
Finally, your listing page may be indexed by search engines, meaning customers might find your Chip Shop listing through their favourite search engine.

Much of the site works without javascript, but you'll be missing out on some great features like the interactive map search on our home page.
Shop listing pages have received special attention to ensure they display well in all browsers, whether javascript is enabled or not, but some of our site (like the registration process for new shops) takes advantage of up-to-date web technologies to deliver you the easiest possible process, meaning you'll need a modern browser.

When a user suggests a shop, and once we can verify it, that listing appears on Chip Shop as an unowned listing. The shops name, address, and phone number shows on a Chip Shop page.
Once that shops owner comes along and claims it, they're able to add more details and the listing will then show as a full Chip Shop listing. Full listings like this will generally open in a new window, and have a navigation bar to get around the various pages that the shop owner has set up.

You can configure your Chip Shop site to allow customers to place an order in advance, without needing to pickup the phone.
Online ordering must be activated for your account first. This is free and only takes a few minutes (get started here). Once that process is complete you'll be given access to an 'online ordering control panel', which you'll need to keep open to give customers access to the ordering features on your site. Any orders they place will automatically pop up on your control panel for you to process.
To see the system in action, check out the intro video on the setup page.

If you are signed in to your online ordering control panel and have the service switched on, customers will automatically be shown a button to place an order, on your menu page.
You might also like to add a message to the front page of your site advising that online ordering is available during opening hours. To do this, visit this link and update your 'basic info' - this is displayed on your home page.
If you have enabled online ordering but do not currently have the service switched on in your control panel (for example if you are closed) your customers will be shown a message which you can preset during the setup process. This message can also be changed at any time via the 'settings' button in your online ordering control panel.

There is no setup or ongoing charges for online ordering, as the service is ad-supported. You will notice a small amount of advertising on your Chip Shop site.
You'll have the option to set a surcharge for any order placed on your Chip Shop site. This surcharge is displayed as part of your customers order summary, and you collect it when they pickup and pay for their order. You can set this amount anywhere between 0 - 50 cents when you enable online ordering, and change it any time in your online ordering control panel.

You can indicate the current waiting time for orders on your online ordering control panel.
When a customer places an order, they are shown this waiting time along with details on where to find your shop, and an order summary including total price.
If you are unable to complete the order - for example if you have run out of an item - you need to call the customer on the phone number they provided to discuss an alternative.

Customers will not be able to start an order unless you are connected from the Chip Shop server and have online ordering switched on.
This check is performed again before the customer is able to submit the order, so if you have switched online ordering off or have been disconnected from our server they will be presented with a message saying that the order could not be sent. They will then have the option to try again, or phone your shop if the problem continues.
In the unlikely event that an order is allowed to be submitted, but is not downloaded to your online ordering control panel within two minutes, we will send you an email advising of the problem. This is only possible if you disconnect at the exact moment an order is sent, or if your internet connection is unreliable. The online ordering control panel shows a status bar advising you of the current connection status, and this will update if you lose the connection to the Chip Shop server.
