Sometimes Chip Shop will ask your browser for your location, which often appears to you in the form of a pop-up or alert asking if we can use your location.

This is done to help you navigate around the site faster. For example, it can be used to center the map of shops you see on the front page, or when you type an address into a form field you'll be shown a drop-down list of nearby streets to help you complete the form faster. It's also used to show you featured listings which are relevant to your location.

The only time a specific address is stored in our database is when you intentionally give us an address in a form (when listing a new business, for example).

To get the best experience out of Chip Shop we recommend using a Javascript-enabled browser.

Much of the site works without Javascript, but you'll be missing out on some great features like online ordering, or the interactive map search on our home page.

Shop listing pages have received special attention to ensure they display well in all browsers, whether Javascript is enabled or not, but some of our site (like the registration process for new shops) takes advantage of up-to-date web technologies to deliver you the easiest possible process, meaning you'll need a modern browser.

Registering and suggesting a shop is handled differently.

If you own or manage a takeaway shop, you should register your shop, which will allow you to create a full five page website for your business, which customers will be able to find from the map on the front page of chipshop.co.nz. Shops you register will be linked to your user account so you can make changes at any time.

If you don't actually own a takeaway shop but would like to suggest one for our listings, you can suggest a shop, which we'll review before adding it to our database. Shops you suggest won't be associated with your account.

If the shop owner has set up online ordering, you can place an order directly on their menu page, to pickup and pay in-store.

The shop owner also has to have the service currently switched on in-store - just look for the message at the top of the menu page to see if it's currently available. If it is, you'll be able to press the 'click to start' button. You'll be prompted to either create/sign in to a Chip Shop account, or just order as a guest if you don't want your order history saved.

Once the order is in progress, just look for the and buttons on the menu to add or remove items from your order. When you're done, scroll down the page to enter the required details, before submitting your order. You'll be given an indication of the current waiting time for pickup, and if you chose to enter an email address we'll send you a confirmation of your order. You'll still need to pay for your order in-store on pickup.
